WAYCROSS, 2010
As we enter 2010, we are seeing an increase in the number of residents interested in taking our training workshops and producing programming. We also continue to see increases in calls for service by our local schools and government organizations. At the same time, however, we are facing our leanest budget in years. Springfield Township has opted to keep a large portion of the franchise fees received from Time Warner Cable, for use elsewhere in their budget. This decision was not made lightly, and is a result of lower than expected estate tax revenue. We plan to revisit the issue at the end of the year when the economy (hopefully) has started to rebound. Township residents who want more information about this decision and the township budget in general are encouraged to attend the State of the Township Community Address on February 28 at 2:30 PM at the Grove Banquet Hall. Although funding from the township has been reduced, it has not been totally eliminated. Like a lot of organizations across the region, we are being challenged to do more with less. The obvious question is "How will this effect Waycross?". As a part of the required expense reductions, we have eliminated two positions, effective January 22. We wish our Development Coordinator Deborah Davis and Program Technician Chris Hanby well in their future endeavors. They will be missed. While we expect little or no impact on the services we currently provide to Forest Park and Greenhills, there will be some cutbacks in services provided to Township organizations and schools. For example, beginning with the 2010-11 school year, we will no longer be able to provide staff for the video production classes at Finneytown High School and the video clubs at Finneytown Middle/High schools and Mt. Healthy Jr. High. We will also be a bit more limited in the number of productions we will be able do throughout the township. We are working on identifying new sources of revenue. Please see the following article on one way you can help support Waycross at no cost to you. Thank you for you past and future support of Waycross. SUPPORT WAYCROSS USING GOOD SEARCH You can help support Waycross while doing something many of us do every day - searching the internet. It's easy - simply install the Goodsearch menu bar on your web browser and use it to perform search's quickly and easily. Waycross will earn 1¢ for every search, which does not sound like a lot, but will add up over the course of the year.
