WAYCROSS SUMMER CAMP Our video summer camp is in full swing, with our campers already putting together programs that will be cablecast starting in July. The kids are having a great time learning how to create video programs. In June, the campers traveled to Paul Brown Stadium, WLWT - Channel 5, Great American Ballpark (Reds vs Philly's) and the Pleasant Run Farms Pool. Campers took lots of video at each location - watch for lots of great programming once the editing process is complete! Our 2010 summer camp program was made possible by the support of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation - Summertime Kids Program and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation. NATIONAL HOMETOWN AWARD WINNERS Waycross Community Media will be honored at the 2010 Hometown Awards Ceremony, to be held on Friday, July 9th as part of the Alliance for Community Media's National Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. Volunteers and staff from Waycross will receive an award for the program OHSAA D2 State Semi-final Football - Winton Woods vs Marion-Franklin, in the category of Sports Event Coverage. Congratulations and thanks to the crew that traveled to Centerville, OH for their commitment to this production - Jonathan Palmer, Butch Culbreath, Matt Steele, Alex Bergquist, Adam Schrand, Tom Bruckmann, Andy Sanzotta, and Jacob Williams. Steve Coaston, a community producer who has produced programming through Waycross since January, 2000, will also receive a Hometown Award for his program Doctor's in the Kitchen, in the Informational Feature category. Way to go Steve! The Hometown Awards honor the best in community programming from throughout the US and Canada. This year, over 1250 entries were judged at sites throughout the US. The Alliance for Community Media is a nonprofit, national membership organization founded in 1976. The Alliance represents over 3,000 Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access organizations and community media centers throughout the country. It also represents the interests of millions of people, schools, and governments who use PEG access to communicate with their memberships and the community as a whole. THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS A big thank you to our program sponsors for June:
And to our Summer Camp Supporters:

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Chris Gaines Chris Gaines is a newcomer to Waycross Community Media but has already started to leave his mark. The 44-year-old, former Akron Disc Jockey and current Forest Park resident joined Waycross in December 2009 when he took the Portable Production and Final Cut Pro Workshops, . He expressed his interest in learning the Robotics Camera systems. Training under Jason Grzegorek, Chris learned very fast and has since covered Forest Park and Greenhills council meetings, as well as Springfield Township Trustee Meetings. He has volunteered as Videographer on single camera shoots and hopes to produce his own program in the near future. We look forward to a long continued relationship with this valued volunteer.
