Waycross Community Media Receives the Community Spirit Award from the Winton Woods School Board

The Winton Woods School Board presented the Community Spirit Award to Waycross Community Media at their January board meeting. "This award is presented to an organization or individual to recognize their significant contributions to the Winton Woods School district over a period of many years." according to Superintendent Camille Nasbe. "We'd like to thank you for all you do for our students and community.....Not every community has this gem, so we're really lucky to have this".

Waycross has been working with the Winton Woods schools since 1983. Academic events, concerts, awards programs, graduations, board meetings and sporting events are recorded by Waycross staff and volunteers and cablecast/webcast to the community. Since 1983, Waycross has presented 2817 programs featuring Winton Woods students from every district school. Waycross also supports the video production classes at Winton Woods High School with equipment and staff support, and has worked with students in video clubs and summer camps.

"We have enjoyed working with the students and faculty of Winton Woods schools, and appreciate the support of the board" said Chip Bergquist, Waycross Executive Director. "Our goal is to highlight the positive things the students are doing in the schools. We also appreciate the continued support of both the Forest Park and Greenhills councils, who help make what we do possible"

Winton Woods programming can be viewed on Time Warner Cable, channel 4 (as well as the LIVE online stream of this channel at www.waycross.tv/WaycrossEducationLIVE). Programs can also be viewed anytime at the districts Video On Demand page at www.waycross.tv/wwvod. Playback schedules and more information is available at www.waycross.tv.

Goodsearch

GoodSearch is a search engine, powered by Yahoo, that will contribute money to Waycross based on the number of searches and online shopping performed by our supporters each year.

It works exactly like any search engine, and each search will result in a 1¢ donation to Waycross. In addition, if you shop online, GoodSearch partner GoodShop will contribute up to 30% of your purchase to Waycross - all at no cost to you.

The simplest way to support Waycross through Goodsearch is to install the GoodSearch Toolbar by going to http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/waycross-community-media. Once installed, all searches and many online purchases will generate a donation to Waycross. Hundreds of online merchants, including Amazon.com participate in the program.

If you would like to shop or search without installing the toolbar, simply go to GoodShop.com or GoodSearch.com and designate Waycross as your charity.

Community Access Preservation (CAP) Act

UPDATE: Please take a couple of minutes to contact your congressman on this important issue. Simply go to www.waycross.tv/congress, enter your name and address, and a message will be sent to your congressman and senators.
-------------------------
A bill has been introduced in Congress that would help preserve funding for community media centers across the country. The bill, jointly introduced by Reps. Steve LaTourette (R-OH) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is H.R. 1746, the Community Access Preservation (CAP) Act. The legislation, if adopted, would restore PEG funding eliminated by Ohio's 2007 state franchising law, allow PEG funding to be used for operating expenses, require that cable operators transmit the PEG channels without charge to the media center. prevent operators from discriminating against PEG channels, and make it clear that any entity that provides video services via facilities in the rights of way is subject to the Cable Act's franchising requirements.

We have been working with Rep. Chabot's office to become a co-sponsor. Please take a moment to e-mail him by going to www.waycross.tv/congress

If You Don't Have Cable, You Don't Get Waycross

The thing that distinguishes cable from satellite is local community based programming like Waycross. No where else on TV can you see LIVE council meetings and LOCAL community events. High school sports and school events come to life on cable. And no where else on television can you see programs created by your neighbors, local churches, and non-profit organizations.

Did you know that you can get all the Waycross channels, plus the Cincinnati broadcast channels (in analog and HD), for under $20 per month? Time Warner Cable offers a BASIC level of service. No need for a converter box or added tiers of service - just plug the cable into your analog or digital TV and you are ready to watch all your favorite Waycross programs.

For more information about basic cable, call 489-5900. If the CSR does not offer the rate when requested, please call Chip Bergquist at 825-2429.

Waycross Community Media is not affiliated with Time Warner Cable. Price set by Time Warner and is exclusive of taxes and fees.
